Cathy Acocks joined Outdoors Victoria as its first Chief Executive Officer in February 2013.

Cathy brings to the organisation more than two decades of experience working as a senior administrator in the Victorian Public Service, in Sport and Recreation, Tourism and Justice. During that time, she led a number of high profile, sensitive and complex projects, contributing to the government’s community resilience and safety strategies. In particular, Cathy spearheaded the integration of Life Saving Victoria into the emergency services sector, bringing together key government and agency stakeholders to form the Victorian Water Safety Council.

Working with Life Saving Victoria and water safety stakeholders, Cathy developed and delivered the government’s highly successful water safety campaign ‘Play it Safe by the Water’, reducing the incidence of drowning by 50% over the last decade. In recognition of her work, she was awarded the International Life Saving Federation Citation of Merit.

In partnership with key emergency services agencies, Cathy had a central role in the development of the first Emergency Services Volunteer Framework for Victoria, guiding agency-based policy and program development for supporting emergency services volunteers.

Cathy has a strong passion for the outdoors, and in particular water sports. She was a national swimming coach for over 20 years and successfully trained a number of swimmers on Australian teams.
